To promote and expand the laser optics field, the commercial players in Bordeaux’s Laser Highway (Route des Lasers) are undertaking a major investment in a 32-hectare site development program, covering three science parks - Laseris 1 and Laseris 2 at Le Barp, south of Bordeaux and alongside the huge laser installations of the CEA/CESTA operation, and Photonics City, at Pessac in Bordeaux.

Laseris 1 is a science park for equipment suppliers to the Megajoule Laser facility, as well as companies grouped within the laser optics field. On its 26,000 m2 site, of which 4,000 m2 are white rooms, it houses Thales Gerac, Sagem Défense Sécurité, Cofely, Spie, Clemessy, SST Energy International, Saur, Beview, l’Agence Photo Free Lens, G2 Métric, Eosol Energies Nouvelles, shortly to be joined by EBC Médical. The presence of the Lasers and Plasmas Institute adds to the attraction of the zone in drawing in high-end researchers.

Laseris 2, an 8-hectare site intended for tertiary activities and industry services will shortly have a hotel, a crèche and a business center, creating a living area to facilitate relaxation and the exchange of ideas.

The construction of a 285Kw solar power unit is likewise on the stocks, in collaboration with Eosol Energies Nouvelles. Covering one hectare, this solar energy farm will act as Aquitaine’s technological showcase in this discipline, in particular with regard to solar energy concentration.

Photonics City, located on a 4-hectare lot on the campus of Bordeaux University, provides a favorable environment for startups and young companies focused on research and innovative activity. Eolite Systems, Cordouan Technologies and the SEML Route des Lasers have already decided to locate there
