When Invest in Photonics 2010 Meets Europe...

Organization delegates for “Invest in Photonics 2010” convened in Brussels to finalize the program to promote both this event and the Laser Highway cluster, to the European Commission and to the European technological platform known as Photonics21.

With the support of the “Photonics Unit” of the Information and Media Society of the European Commission, this lobbying program resulted in:

Giving legitimacy to the annual event in Bordeaux
Confirming the support of the European Commission and of Photonics21.
Taking cognizance of the necessity of regional lobbying among the technological platforms within the European Union, linked with the centers of excellence in Aquitaine.

Aquitaine Sets Its Sights on China

The Aquitaine region is setting up a Chinese development office at Wuhan in Hubei Province.

Within the framework of existing collaborative agreements between the two regions, the Aquitaine Regional Council plans to establish a local business representation and support office at Wuhan.

Its mission will be to help Aquitaine businesses to increase exports and to sell Aquitaine skills and know-how.
This will be a very positive advantage for smaller and medium Aquitaine companies, particularly in the laser and wine producing sectors.

Dedicated Low-cost Terminal for Bordeaux Airport

In view of the rapid growth of low cost air traffic, Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport is planning a dedicated low cost airline terminal, which is scheduled to open at end 2009.

It will be able to handle 2 million passengers a year, which is the forecast traffic by 2017. At this point, it should account for 40% of total traffic through Mérignac.

Bordeaux Route des Lasers at Laser world Photonics 2009

In the region of Bordeaux, lasers, photonics and their applications is a main field. That is why key players of Bordeaux “Route des Lasers” will come together, for the third time in a raw at Laser World of Photonics - booth C1-319 - to promote companies' expertise and products.

EOLITE Systems will introduce its new multi-fiber delivery laser “OCTOPUS” and the new 150W version of its BOREAS Laser.
Amplitude Systèmes will demonstrate Satsuma, a compact diode-pumped ultrafast fiber laser, and Mikan, a new serie of compact air-cooled ultrafast ascillators.
CORDOUAN Technologies will present its new instrument for physical-chemistry applications dedicated to the refractive index measurement in suspensions for analysis applications such as the characterization of absorbent, dark or concentrated samples.
Polyrise will also introduce a new class of Sol Gel based varnishes for anti-reflective coatings applications.
Finally, the CEA – French Atomic Energy Commission will present its main activities in the fields of : energy, information and health technologies, Defence and global security, based on fundamental research driven by excellence.

Business Parks Fully Under Way

To promote and expand the laser optics field, the commercial players in Bordeaux's Laser Highway (Route des Lasers) are undertaking a major investment in a 32-hectare site development program, covering three science parks - Laseris 1 and Laseris 2 at Le Barp, south of Bordeaux and alongside the huge laser installations of the CEA/CESTA operation, and Photonics City, at Pessac in Bordeaux.

Laseris 1 is a science park for equipment suppliers to the Megajoule Laser facility, as well as companies grouped within the laser optics field. On its 26,000 m2 site, of which 4,000 m2 are white rooms, it houses Thales Gerac, Sagem Défense Sécurité, Cofely, Spie, Clemessy, SST Energy International, Saur, Beview, l'Agence Photo Free Lens, G2 Métric, Eosol Energies Nouvelles, shortly to be joined by EBC Médical. The presence of the Lasers and Plasmas Institute adds to the attraction of the zone in drawing in high-end researchers.

Laseris 2, an 8-hectare site intended for tertiary activities and industry services will shortly have a hotel, a crèche and a business center, creating a living area to facilitate relaxation and the exchange of ideas.

The construction of a 285Kw solar power unit is likewise on the stocks, in collaboration with Eosol Energies Nouvelles. Covering one hectare, this solar energy farm will act as Aquitaine's technological showcase in this discipline, in particular with regard to solar energy concentration.

Photonics City, located on a 4-hectare lot on the campus of Bordeaux University, provides a favorable environment for startups and young companies focused on research and innovative activity. Eolite Systems, Cordouan Technologies and the SEML Route des Lasers have already decided to locate there

New Laser and Plasma Institute in Bordeaux

The new Institut Lasers and Plasmas (ILP) has just come into being at Le Barp, south of Bordeaux, alongside the upcoming Megajoule Laser installation.

Thanks to the LIL (Laser Integration line) and the PETAL (Petawatt laser), Bordeaux has the greatest High-intensity laser capacity in Europe. As such, it is becoming a top-line attraction to all scientists and industrials in this field.

The new 1,500m2 research facility is open to researchers who are engaged in civil research programs under way at the CEA/ CESTA facilities.

The ILP is a national steering organization, whose mission is to promote, drive and coordinate programs in the field of high-intensity lasers and plasmas.

EOLITE SYSTEMS prepares future

On May 11th, EOLITE Systems was pleased to host Herve Morin, the French Minister of Defense who came to present the new national program for supporting innovative startups developing “dual technologies” applicable for civilian and defense applications.

After its visit of EOLITE industrial site, at the Cité of Photonics in Bordeaux, the Minister of Defense said he was very impressed by the innovation and the products that were demonstrated. He took this opportunity to introduce the new governmental support program RAPID dedicated to small companies developing world-ranked technologies applicable to defense and civilian applications.

EOLITE SYSTEMS was founded in 2004 to offer new photonic solutions for industrial and defense laser solutions. The company introduced BOREAS the first pulsed fibre laser based on photonic fibre. EOLITE Systems is also pleased to announce a successful €2,8M capital rising.

Lectra Takes another Step Forward in Fashion
